Lighting Is the One Detail
People Actually Notice.
Lighting is the difference between a room that photographs well and a room that lives well. Most LA homeowners we work with start with one specific request — "we want recessed lighting in the great room" or "we need dimmers in the kitchen" — and end up with a layered, controlled lighting plan throughout. Recessed cans for ambient. Pendants over the island. Sconces for circulation. Dimmers everywhere. Exterior lighting that turns on at sunset. The whole thing, properly wired.
We install the visible part — pendants, chandeliers, sconces, recessed cans, exterior fixtures — and we install the invisible part: the dedicated circuits, the dimmers that handle low-voltage LED loads cleanly, the smart switches with neutrals pulled, the 3-way and 4-way switching that lets you control a hallway from either end. The final result is a lighting system, not a collection of fixtures.
What We Install.
- Recessed lighting — new construction cans (with attic access) or remodel cans (no attic), 4" or 6" trim, all standard housings (IC-rated, airtight, sloped-ceiling)
- LED retrofits — replace existing can trim and bulb with integrated LED modules
- Pendant lights and chandeliers — install, hang, hardwire, and aim, including motorized hoists for large fixtures
- Wall sconces — interior and exterior, with junction box drops at proper heights
- Ceiling fans — including remote-controlled and DC-motor models, with proper fan-rated boxes
- Dimmers and switches — Leviton Decora and Lutron Caseta/Diva, including 3-way and 4-way configurations
- Smart lighting — Lutron Caseta, RadioRA 2, RadioRA 3, Leviton smart, Insteon
- Exterior and landscape lighting — low-voltage path, deck, hardscape, and tree uplighting with transformers and timers
- Pool perimeter lighting — LED low-voltage around pool decks (coordinated with pool electrical)
- Closet, cabinet, and toe-kick lighting — LED strip and puck lighting with neutral-bonded transformers
- Vanity and mirror lighting — including hardwired LED-backlit mirrors
- Garage and workshop lighting — LED panels, T8 retrofits, motion sensors
Our Lighting Process.
- Walk-Through & Lighting PlanYarden walks the rooms with you. Looks at ceiling structure, switch leg locations, attic access, and existing fixtures. Talks through what you want each room to feel like — bright/work, soft/relaxed, layered/dramatic. Sketches a fixture count and switch layout.
- Written QuoteItemized: fixture count, switch and dimmer count, smart system cost if any, conduit/wire allowance, drywall patch allowance if cuts are needed, permit if required. Clear total.
- Permit PullFor new circuits and major lighting work, LADBS permit. For one-for-one fixture replacements, no permit needed.
- Rough-InIf walls or ceilings are open, we drop wires and set boxes. If closed, we fish through attic or wall cavities — minimal cuts, patches as required.
- Fixture InstallMount pendants and chandeliers. Set recessed cans. Hardwire sconces. Connect ceiling fans on fan-rated boxes. Test each fixture as we go.
- Switch & Dimmer InstallReplace existing switches with proper dimmers, smart switches, or 3-way configurations. Confirm dimmer load compatibility (LED loads can be tricky — we use dimmers rated for the bulb wattage).
- Smart System SetupFor Lutron Caseta or RadioRA installs, we configure the hub, name the loads in the app, set up scenes, and walk you through the control.
- Inspection (if permitted)LADBS inspector, first-pass standard, signed card.
Cost & Timeline.
Typical schedule: 1 to 5 days on-site for most lighting projects. A single-room recessed job is half a day. A whole-house lighting refresh with smart switches and exterior lighting can be a week.
Why Leviton & Lutron.
Leviton Decora is the standard for finish devices — toggle and rocker switches, dimmers, GFCI outlets — because the line stays consistent for decades. Buy one to match a 1990s install today, you can. Lutron is the standard for serious dimming and smart systems — their dimmer load curves on LEDs are cleaner, their wireless mesh networks more reliable, and their installer support is unmatched. We install both because they hold up. Cheaper alternatives buzz, flicker, or fail in 3-5 years.
Yarden’s company was the first to call me — same day within an hour. He installed a smart doorbell and made the whole process really easy. Friendly, didn’t rush, took time to listen.
